THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF WHO WORKED DURING THE FIRST STAGE OF THE 2020 PANDEMIC IN PUBLIC HOSPITALS IN THE CITY OF SAN SALVADOR DE JUJUY, PROVINCE OF JUJUY

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic, declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020, significantly impacted the health and well-being of people worldwide. This study aims to identify the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of administrative staff who worked during the first year of the pandemic, 2020, at the HOSCAM Field Hospital, Dr. Héctor Quintana Maternity Hospital, Pablo Soria Hospital, and San Roque Hospital in the city of San Salvador de Jujuy, Jujuy Province. Conducted from a quantitative, retrospective approach, the study utilized electronic questionnaires to collect data from health sector administrative workers. The results show that 68% experienced disruptions in their sleep cycles, 78% required more rest during the pandemic, 54% reported moderate physical and mental fatigue, and 40% reported high levels of fatigue. Additionally, 60% stated that their mental health was negatively affected by working during the pandemic, with 52% experiencing stress and 20% experiencing anxiety. Despite these conditions, 76% of respondents did not seek psychological support or counseling during the pandemic. In conclusion, administrative staff experienced a significant increase in stress and anxiety levels, emotional exhaustion, and mental fatigue. The findings highlight the need to provide adequate support and resources to staff to ensure their well-being and mental health during future health crises.
