CHARACTERIZATION OF SOCIAL COMPETENCES IN COMPUTER ENGINEERING STUDENTS OF THE UCSE-DASS

Abstract

The context of labour, in accordance with the technological advances and global-level changes strengthened by the pandemic, presents new scenarios; this leads to diverting the attention to understanding the needs of university students and professionals, identifying the appropriate skills for the renewed requirements of the world of work, which acquires importance in training in technological careers.

The study of 21st-century skills demanded by new labour trends, such as permanent learning, collaboration, teamwork, and communication, allows for carrying out research and suggestions that contribute to the training of engineering professionals.

In this sense, a study was undertaken on the soft skills demanded and valued by university students and graduates of engineering careers. Then, the investigation was provided with context by the participation of students from the Computer Engineering career at the Catholic University of Santiago del Estero, in the San Salvador Academic Department.

As a result, the situation analysis in the university training in engineering begins, taking into account student-oriented comprehensive training and emphasizing the new skills required for the job.
