Abstract

This article presents the narrative genre as a methodological strategy that made it possible to recover the experiences of Santiago del Estero women around cooking and eating. Women who work a double shift were selected. The remuneration they receive from their culinary undertakings does not imply the renunciation of other responsibilities assumed. On the one hand, they cook for their families (first shift) and then cook for other people as part of a remunerated job (second shift). Through reconstructing experiences in the kitchen, we examined their body expressions, images, routines, mandates and generic sexes present in subjectivity. Although the stories expose disadvantages, inequalities in the distribution of domestic tasks and lack of health protection, the kitchen, for this group of women, becomes a space capable of reconfiguring identities, subjectivities and duties assumed over time. The resistances are subtle, and in many cases, they are not conscious, not shared, and mark an obstacle to becoming a collaborative consciousness; at this point, the narrative makes it possible to build new versions, new possibilities, and new stories.
