Breaking down language barriers in times of pandemic

Abstract

We believe that during the pandemic, there are gaps in access to information by indigenous and peasant communities. We consider that it is necessary to prepare dissemination material for these communities, in native languages with content that responds to their needs and the reality of their communities.

The native communities and the peasantry have communication strategies such as networks of grassroots organizations, direct dialogue in the community and the use of their own media and channels such as community radios. In this way, the creation and dissemination of information in the mother tongue, Quichua, regarding COVID-19 enhances and improves the effectiveness of the health response, helping to save more lives.
